Launch of First Playable

I am equally excited and scared to show my unfinished game to the world, and THANK YOU for looking my way!

My intention with the game is still convoluted and fractured, but I hope that this launch of something playable will provide me some feedback on where I should put my focus in the coming months. In the current state of the game, I don't blame you if you get confused or annoyed, and if you actually have fun, please let me know. And let me know if you're confused or annoyed too!

Overall, I wish to create a space adventure localised in our solar system. I want to make the interplanetary spaceflight of Kerbal Space Program easier to play with, initially by removing a dimension, and further by using less rocket science and more rocket fun. My challenge is to keep the physics of space travel, gravity slings and rocketry as accurate as I can, while making interactions and gameplay challenges more intuitive and playable. I'm far from my goal, but I think I am on a good track. Solid ideas are in the pipeline for story, further mechanics and alternate routes, but right now I just want to find out if it's any fun to fly in 2D gravity without too much control.

A few tips

If you decide to give my game a shot and want to experience what I wish to accomplish, there are some concepts that are not yet communicated appropriately in the game, which should help you:

You don't rotate your ship.

When you press the arrow keys, your ship will thrust in the direction you press. Due to inertia, you need to thrust for a while to change direction. I hope you'll quickly get used to it, but please let me know!

This is not an arcade game.

Some people have been confused by the coins, and you shouldn't worry too much. They are placeholder for a more layered economy, but is meant to grab your attention and make you intuitively know to grab them. They give you a "score", which is also placeholder for now.

Refuel at planets.

You will quickly run out of fuel if you aren't careful. Plan you targets and refuel at any planet by being close to it, with a relatively low speed. A flyby might work sometimes. After you grab your first two coins, you should immediately go to a planet and refuel, only reaching for coins on the way.

Following these tips, you should be able to grab a bunch of coins within the orbit of Jupiter, and hopefully not get lost on the way. I am having a blast trying to maximize my fuel efficiency and route planning, and I really hope you will too.

In the coming weeks, I expect to release an update and/or a post at least once a week, so please stay tuned, follow me and share your thoughts in the comments!

A quick thanks to my prerelease testers: John, Lars, Ulrik, Mikkel and Sidse
